As a result of the tremendous success of the exhibition and event at South London Irish Centre, in the summer and by popular demand we will be holding a similar event in Manchester at the end of November.

WRITING CALL-OUT: THE IRISH NATION

Irish Mancunian invite all writers, beginners as well as the more experienced, to submit original pieces of writing inspired by a mosaic from the pieces on this website.  These mosaics were created by world-renowned mosaic artist Mark Kennedy. Each mosaic installation depicts an iconic Irish figure and is part of the Irish Nation Collection:

Ten pieces of writing will be selected for performance at An Evening of Music and New Writing to accompany an exhibition of the mosaics at St John’s Centre, Chequers road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, M21 9DL, on Sunday 29th November 2026.

Submission Guidelines 

• Any genre or format of writing is acceptable (e.g. poem, monologue, script, short story, reportage, etc) as long as the stimulus material is one of the mosaics.

• The piece of writing must not exceed 500 words, including the title.  Anything longer than this limit will not be accepted.

• An introduction, of up to (but no more than) 50 words, can be added. Exceeding this limit will disqualify the entry.

• Entries will be judged anonymously; therefore, the writer’s name or any identifying feature, must not appear anywhere on the piece or introduction.

• Email entries to submissionirishnation@gmail.com with subject "Mosaic Submission" in the subject line, and the title and genre described in the body text, along with the writer's name.

• Entries MUST be received by 6.00p.m. on Sunday 25th October 2026.

• A selection process will be undertaken after the deadline, with 10 pieces selected for performance by Friday 8th November 2026. Successful writers will be contacted after this date.

• The performance will take place on Sunday 29th November.
